Time Commitment: Approximately 4 hours per week during the planning phase, increasing closer to the event
Role Objective
The Australian Contingent to Poland 2027 is seeking a Social & Community Manager to lead digital engagement across multiple platforms before, during, and after the 26th World Scout Jamboree.
This role is responsible for developing and implementing content strategies, overseeing community engagement, and managing a team to ensure effective social media coverage of the Contingent’s journey. During the Jamboree, this role will coordinate real-time content creation, ensuring key moments are shared with the Contingent and its supporters.
The Social & Community Manager will work closely with the Media Manager and broader Marketing & Communications Team to deliver consistent, engaging, and timely content while maintaining a strong and inclusive online community.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and manage a content calendar for social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Workplace
Plan and execute pre-event digital campaigns, ensuring effective engagement with participants and their families
Oversee real-time content creation and event coverage during the Jamboree, working with the Media Manager and content team
Manage user-generated content (UGC), providing opportunities for participants to share their experiences through Contingent platforms
Ensure short-form and long-form content is produced and published consistently, maintaining engagement throughout the event cycle
Work closely with the Marketing & Communications Team to align messaging and branding across all digital platforms
Lead a team of volunteers responsible for content creation and social media management
Oversee workflow and file management to ensure efficient approval processes and content scheduling
Engage with the Contingent’s online community, responding to questions and fostering positive interactions
Prepare reports on content performance and engagement, identifying opportunities for improvement
Attend regular team meetings and provide updates on social media and community engagement strategies
Complete any other tasks reasonably required by the Marketing & Communications Director

Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone who:
Has experience in social media management, with a strong understanding of digital content strategy and community engagement
Has excellent written and visual communication skills
Can work effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment, particularly during live event coverage
Has strong leadership and teamwork skills, capable of managing volunteers and collaborating with multiple teams
Can manage workflow, approvals, and scheduling efficiently
Has strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adjust plans as required
Is a current member of Scouts Australia and will maintain this membership throughout their tenure
Holds and maintains a valid Working with Children/Vulnerable Persons Check and National Police Check, agreeing to any further checks as required
Completes and maintains all mandatory Scouts Australia training requirements, renewing them as necessary
Upholds the team charter, as well as Scouts Australia’s Adult Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct
Desirable Skills and Experience
Experience at a previous World and/or Australian Jamboree
Strong knowledge of social media trends and emerging technologies
Experience in leading teams and managing volunteers
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, online scheduling platforms, and content management tools
Experience in event-based content planning and execution
Time Commitment
This role requires a flexible commitment, varying across the event cycle:
Pre-event – Approximately 4+ hours per week, increasing as the event approaches
During the Jamboree – Full-time commitment, managing content creation and engagement in real time
Post-event – Assisting with content wrap-ups, engagement summaries, and final storytelling
This is a volunteer position, with a six-month probationary period to assess suitability.
